GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q. Why are you considering a permanent partnership between the Frankfort YMCA and the YMCA of Central Kentucky associations?
A. There is a long history of collaboration between the Frankfort YMCA and the YMCA of Central Kentucky. We believe the YMCAs and their communities will be well-served by joining the associations and sharing resources. Because of the collaborative relationship that already exists and the potential to provide enhanced opportunities to both areas, the time is right to evaluate the opportunities to use our resources in the most effective way to ensure strong YMCA services. The need in both communities for YMCA services has never been greater.

Q. What is motivating this consideration?
A. There are several factors that make this a timely consideration, including:
o By working together, we believe that there will be more efficiency in services and the Y will be able to offer more and the best services to strengthen the communities we serve There are already many shared resources and services between the two YMCAs because of their strong collaboration over the years.
o The YMCA has a history of efficient administration, and this will provide greater effectiveness in the long term enhance the services and programs that are provided.
o The two associations enjoy a shared media market.

Q. When will it be effective?
A. The permanent partnership of the two YMCAs is expected to officially take effect pending Board approval in 2017.

Q. What will be the corporate effect of the permanent partnership?
A. Frankfort YMCA and the YMCA of Central Kentucky would become part of the YMCA of Central Kentucky, with the YMCA of Central Kentucky becoming the single, combined, association.

Q. Who will be in charge of the consolidated YMCA?
A. David Martorano, President & CEO of the newly joined association. The Board of the YMCA of Central Kentucky will be restructured to include representation from the current Board of the Frankfort YMCA, and that Board will provide oversight to the entire Association.

Q. How will donors be affected? If I donate money to my local Y how will I know where it goes?
A. Thanks to the support of our members and the generosity of our donors, the Frankfort YMCA and the YMCA of Central Kentucky are a strong and vital part of their communities. We are committed to continuing to operate in a fiscally responsible manner and being good stewards of the funds entrusted to us. While we believe that gifts with no restrictions are the most beneficial, we welcome donors to instruct us regarding how their donation should be used. Therefore, donations can still be designated to a local Y.

Q. How will this affect current local Y participants?
A. For the vast majority of members and participants, this will have no effect whatsoever. Many of the current participants already believe that we are part of a single organization – The Y.

Q. Are there benefits to staff?
A. For a number of years, staff of the two YMCAs have been collaborating on program standards and marketing. This would continue and become stronger. In addition, the larger organization would have increased potential for program development, staff training and career mobility.

Q. Will membership rates change?
A. While it is too soon to determine the membership rates, we don’t anticipate any immediate changes.

Q. Is staff going to lose their jobs?
A. We do not anticipate significant changes in staffing. By joining together, we will see some economies in our operation but we are committed to providing the same quality programs and services our members have come to rely on. The union of these two YMCAs will also provide increased professional development opportunities for staff from both associations.

Q. Will new jobs be created?
A. As one association, we are dedicated to providing greater opportunities to the communities we serve while maximizing our resources. Decisions to add additional staff positions will be determined through a continual review of our programs and services.

Q. Will you still be using local vendors? Could local vendors lose the Y’s business?
A. Existing relationships with our vendors are important and valued. Through our combined resources we will work with vendors from all communities to explore future opportunities that allow us to be good stewards of the Ys funds and operate in a fiscally responsible manner. Every effort will be made to use local vendors.

Q. What are the potential benefits of a permanent partnership of the two Ys for staff?
A. The combined association will provide enhanced staff resources and operational efficiencies, including: human resources, accounting and payroll, financial development and marketing and communications. Many of these are already being realized through the collaboration of the two associations in past years. Additionally, staff from both Ys will have the opportunity to collaborate and/or join forces to provide more and the best services possible. Other potential benefits:
 Align the Y to build our community and better serve our members.
 Maximize resources enabling the Y to expand and strengthen programs and services, particularly in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
 Increase the Y’s ability to attract the top volunteer leadership in the community.
 Increase the Y’s ability to attract and retain the highest quality staff.
 Diversify the Y’s revenue mix, thus reducing vulnerability to external pressures.
 Create cost efficiency in operations by eliminating redundancy in such association-wide expenses.

Q. How will decisions be made about my local Y?
A. The combined volunteer board of directors will provide oversight to the entire YMCA association. Day to day Y operations will still be directed by the local Y staff.

Q. How will the local branch uniqueness be preserved?
A. Each branch of the association will maintain its own unique name and continue to serve a defined area that represents the communities in your Y's service area.

Q. What is the timetable for the Permanent Partnership process?
A. Once the Board of Directors of the Frankfort YMCA and the YMCA of Central Kentucky give their preliminary approval to unite in 2017, the development of an implementation plan will proceed. This plan will discover the corporate procedures for combining the organizations and determine how duplicative departments like Human Resources, Finance and Marketing will be combined.

B. The Boards are then expected to vote on the implementation plan by the first quarter of 2017, with the permanent partnership to take effect within 2017. The implementation plan could take a year or more to be completed.

Q. How can you guarantee that my local Y’s needs still get addressed?
A. While the corporate structure of the organization will be changing, both the Frankfort YMCA and the YMCA of Central Kentucky will continue to meet the changing needs of their communities.

Q. Will the Y’s community involvement change?
A. No. The Y remains committed to strengthening the foundation of our community through programs and services that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Q. Will my local Y still have a voice in the new organization?
A. Yes. Volunteers from each Y will be represented on our new board of directors and input from all of our members is valued. Additionally, staff of your local Y welcome and encourage the feedback of members and the community to help further our programs and services. Ideas and suggestions can be shared by meeting with staff, using our suggestion boxes, completing our member surveys and serving on member and program advisory committees.

Frankfort YMCA BASED QUESTIONS
Q. Are the branches of Frankfort YMCA going to close?
A. No, the locations within the Frankfort YMCA will continue to operate and strengthen the foundation of their communities.

Q. How can you guarantee that my local Y’s needs still get addressed?
A. While the corporate structure of the organization will be changing, the Frankfort YMCA will continue to meet the changing needs of the Frankfort community.

Q. Will the Y’s community involvement change?

Q. Will the Frankfort YMCA be changing its name?
A. No. It will still be identified as the Frankfort YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. A communication plan is under development to announce the new partnership.

Q. Will the corporate offices still be at the Frankfort YMCA branch?
A. The corporate offices of the Frankfort YMCA will likely be combined with the YMCA of Central Kentucky corporate offices. That will be determined by the implementation plan currently under development.

Q. How does this benefit the Frankfort YMCA?
A. The joining of these two Y's benefits both organizations through the combining of staff, volunteers, facilities and financial resources. By working together, we believe that there will be more efficiency in services and the Y will be able to offer more and the best services to our local communities.
