You don’t want to miss this exciting evening race! This is the largest road race in Frankfort and has been described as the best 5K in our area. You don’t have to be a diligent runner to come out and enjoy the dancing black cat, costumes, refreshments, music, and a fun course around the State Capitol and Downtown Frankfort. There are first timers, walkers, casual runners, experienced athletes, kids, and people of all ages and abilities. Get in the Halloween spirit, have fun with family and friends, and support the Frankfort Y in this festive, night run.
Registration: Registration information is posted on the left hand side of this page.
T-Shirts: All participants will receive a long sleeved dark heather gray Black Cat Chase Shirt (click here to see a picture of the shirt). You can upgrade to long sleeved performance tech shirt for $10 more. Youth sizes and tech shirts will be a lighter sport gray color.
Packet Pick-Up: Packet pick-up will be held at the Downtown YMCA on Thursday, October 23 from 9am-6pm and Friday, October 24 from 9am-4pm. Packets can also be picked up before the race on the Old State Capitol lawn from 5-6:30pm.
Race Course: The race starts on Broadway by Lewis St (face Wilkinson St. with your back to the History Center). Turn left on Wilkinson, left on Main, right across the Capital Avenue bridge, up Capital Avenue, around the Capitol (between the Capitol and Annex), back down Capital Avenue, across the bridge, left on Main, right on Wilkinson, and right on Broadway (YMCA side) to the finish. Since it is an out and back course, please be cautious of other participants and stay on the right hand side of the road. The race course can be viewed on Map My Run.
Awards: Awards will be given to the top 5 overall male and female participants, the top 3 participants in each age group, and the top 3 teams (minimum 5 runners per team). Best group costumes, stroller, caboose, and other fun prizes will also be distributed. Special school awards will be given to the schools including top team, team with the most participants, fastest educator, and best school spirit/costumes.
Childcare: Free childcare will be offered before and during the race at the Downtown YMCA from 6-8:15pm. You don’t have to register ahead of time or be a member of the Y to utilize this service (it is available to all registered race participants). Childcare will be led by our Crayon Club staff, so all staff are certified in CPR/First Aid and have a variety of trainings in childcare services.
Race Results: Race results will immediately download to the Good Times Event Services website. Your bib will have a QR code that you can scan to get to the results.
Parking: Please utilize the River View Park (Farmer’s Market) parking lot, the garage behind the YMCA (off of Clinton Street), the lot behind the Old Capitol (corner of Lewis and Clinton Street) or the parking lot across from the Kentucky History Center. Broadway will close around 5:30 pm and will not be available for parking.
Volunteers & Sponsors: More volunteers are needed before, during, and after the race. If you or a community group is interested in volunteering, please contact Melissa Bondurant at email@example.com. If your business wants to be a race sponsor and get your business name on the back of the race shirts and promotional materials, please let us know by October 6.
The Black Cat Chase raises money towards our Annual Giving Campaign so that no one is turned away from Y membership or programs due to an inability to pay. We appreciate your support and hope to see you on October 24. If you have further questions, please contact Melissa Bondurant at firstname.lastname@example.org or 502-227-9637 ext. 102.
