There were several recommendations in our recent Seers survey results to better divide the sports leagues. We want to try to spread talent as best as possible, and so we ask that every child attends one of our upcoming fall league evaluations. You can come at any time during the evaluation period, and you don’t have to stay the entire time. Evaluations will be held at Lakeview Park on Sunday, July 27 from 1:30-3:30pm and Monday, July 28 from 5:30-8:00pm. Please make every effort to bring your child (U6 and above) during a 30 minute time period during one of these days and times. If you can’t attend, please email Sports Coordinator Chris Cole or call 502-227-9637 ext. 105 to discuss your child’s playing level and needs.
Coaches will meet on Sunday, August 10 at 4pm in the Downtown YMCA multipurpose room. U10, U12 and U14 coaches can come at 2pm to help schedule games for your team.
Practices start the week of August 11, so you will hear from a coach early that week. If your child ends up on a team with a time that doesn’t suit your schedule, we will make every effort to change him/her to a different team depending on available space. Please contact the Sports Department (info above) to switch teams. Little Kickers will be played on Monday nights starting August 18, so you may hear a little later from a coach about that league.
Games start August 23 (U6 and above). We will not play games on August 30 for Labor Day weekend and October 11 (second weekend of fall break). The season will wrap up on October 25 (Little Kickers ends on October 13, and U6 ends on October 18). Game schedules will be posted here by the end of the first week of practice.
NEW COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
The YMCA will be utilizing a new sports management software system called PlayerSpace. It will help us improve communication with players and coaches and be a valuable resource for everyone. Stay tuned for more information about this as we near the season.
All fields are located in Lakeview Park. Little Kickers/U6 fields are located on the top field by the pavilion in the main entrance of the park (to the left of the pavilion/playground). The U8, U10, and U12 fields are located at the back of the park. Go in the main entrance of the park. Turn to the left by the pavilion and drive past the skate park, past FCHS softball field, and to a gravel lot facing all of the soccer fields. The U12 field is all the way to the right. The U10 fields are in the middle. The U8 fields are to the left and back behind the other fields. There is also drive by FCHS that connects to Lakeview Park instead of using the main entrance.
Shin guards are required. Soccer cleats are recommended (toe cleats aren't allowed). Each player should bring his/her own soccer ball to practice if possible (Size 3 in Little Kickers, U6, and U8; Size 4 in U12; Size 5 in U19). The YMCA has Y logo balls available for purchase. Players will not be allowed to wear jewelry or hair clips/beads during the games. Players will use the same uniforms as fall. New spring players will receive a jersey, shorts, and socks.
